In the UK there is a programme called Watchdog that highlights cases like this and puts pressure (publicity) on the manufacturers, do you have a similar problem. On to another little problem. I have a 1987 325iSE convertible used during the summers, it has only done 17,000 miles. Last summer as I was going down the fast lane of an expressway at about 70mph I lost all power, so with a quick hop across all the lanes I pulled off. The car was put on a loader and taken to my local dealership. They diagnosed low oil levels in the gearbox (despite a recent service). Next week the same thing... result new gearbox! and they wouldn't contribute at all to the costs. This is not my main car, and by now you can guess that my main car is not going to be a BMW. Good luck and keep publicising, every sale they lose is added incentive.
