I too had numerous problems with my wife's '97 528i. It went back to the dealer approximately 18 times in it's first year (I bought it new). Problems included alarm that went off by itself, squeaking brakes, stereo system failed twice, power locks/remote acted up, warped console wood, check engine light, stalling, memory seat failure, etc. However, my experience with Camp BMW in Spokane, WA was the complete opposite of yours. They treated me great every time I brought the car in for service, always had a loaner car running and warmed up awaiting my arrival, and properly corrected the problem each time. I called BMW of North America on a few occasions to vent my frustration with the car, but made it clear the dealership was treating me right. About 9 months into ownership, the sales manager at Camp asked me if a new 528i would make me a happy customer. I said yes, and they delivered a brand new 528i to me almost one year after I purchased the original, even giving me a car with more options. This car has been virtually trouble free for the 2 years since I first took delivery. I am about to trade it for a '99 740iL. The way I was treated has made me a loyal owner. I only wish your experience with your troubled car could have turned out as mine did. Steve Forcier
